I don't know if these little worms are the ultimate worm for steelhead or trout, but they sure are the ultimate little worm for smallmouth bass (landed only two trout). I've been using these since 1990 and they have never failed me. My biggest fish to date using a trout worm is a 5 lb smallmouth. The largest fish I've seen taken with a trout worm was an 8 lb large mouth from an urban lake in Tucson, AZ. So anywhere from urban lakes to rivers here in Arizona I will always catch fish using a trout worm. Yes, Arizona does have rivers with healthy populations of smallmouth bass. You'll have to experiment with color but use a 1/32 oz tube style jig head, 6lb test max out of a spinning reel, and a 6'6" med-light rod as your biggest rod for best results.
